If any of you are an EcuTek user, and think that there is no way the dongle could fail on you mid flash, you are fooling yourself.Įver have the software not open because the dongle isn't recognized, then you cock the thing in the USB port and boom, now it's there?Įver have to pull the dongle out then reinsert it to have the software see it? Dunno what could have been done to prevent this thing from BRICKING MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!Ĭall me, we can get it replaced for you under a warranty PS I have always plugged the dongle and cable into a little USB hub, then the hub into the laptop to avoid any physical strain on the USB connections. I'm told a replacement will be $166, which I view to be totally unacceptable given what I paid for the kit. There is no sign of damage, I have never done anything stupid, and I know how to use this stupid piece of plastic. I installed the drivers again, plugged in the dongle and viola!! but wait, that lasted 5 seconds and the dreaded 'DesKey (dongle)not present' message. I tried installing in another PC, no luck there either. Now the PC wont recognize the dongle at all, never.

I had the laptop sitting on the trunk and did not move it during the flash process as I have done countless times.

Today after having logged my car using the EcuTek software, I went to flash my car, it began to write to the ECU then the dongle became 'unrecognized' and the software stopped. I worked intermittently but enough to get the job done. Fine if the Dongle is reliable, but it's not.Ī couple weeks ago I went through a major headache trying to get my dongle to work so I could flash my car. You have to plug their USB Dongle in to your PC then you can start their software to flash or log your car. If you dont have an EcuTek tune, this is what you will have to put up with if you do.ĮcuTek uses a piece of USB hardware to secure their software. For now the second time this year, I am having major dongle issues.
